CNN’s Nia-Malika Henderson made a fool of herself and CNN on Tuesday when she accidentally went off script and praised the GOP, before spending the next sixty seconds finding a way to contradict her original statement.
The moment happened after host Brooke Baldwin confessed that she’d be throwing Henderson “a curveball” based on breaking news.
The producers in Baldwin’s ear had just informed her that Republicans told Brett Kavanaugh’s accuser — Christine Blasey Ford — that she could testify in public or, if she prefers, in private.
The revelation was an important one because it shows that Republicans are willing to forego transparency and public scrutiny if doing so makes Blasey Ford more comfortable. Given Blasey Ford’s disgusting and flimsy smear, and the Democrats obvious political gamesmanship with the handling of it, that’s no small concession.
And when responding honestly and without calculation, CNN’s Nia-Malika Henderson couldn’t deny that. When asked to comment on the breaking news, she said “Well I guess they’re trying to make this happen.”
But that comment contradicts the media narrative that Republicans are afraid of Blasey Ford’s accusation. So after spending exactly one minute doing all kinds of verbal gymnastics to get back on script, Henderson eventually landed a full 180 degrees from where she started.
“I think a legitimate question is how badly Republicans actually want this hearing to happen?'”, she pessimistically challenged.
So to start: They want this to happen.
And to finish: It’s obvious they don’t want this to happen.
Here’s a shorter version that highlights the contradiction…
This is just another example of why CNN is literally the least trusted and least watched name in news. And it stands to reason that Baldwin and the other anti-Trump propagandists who masquerade as impartial journalists, won’t be throwing Nia-Malika Henderson any more curveballs any time soon.
